EU Detergent Standard

In May 3, 2011, the CHEMICAL WATCH website announced that the European Commission recently issued a new eco label standard for dishwashing and laundry detergents in the official communique of the European Union, and set a more stringent use limit for specific chemicals, while eliminating the chemical component phosphate (phosphates) in detergents.

The new standard was drawn up after the European Commission put forward a draft regulation that completely prohibits the use of phosphate for detergents and restricts the consumption of other phosphate compounds.

The new eco label standard has replaced the standard which expired in April 30th and is valid for 4 years.

Manufacturers who have been awarded the old eco label standard can continue to use the eco label until April 30, 2012.
